In the late 1930s, Don Enrique Arbeláez and his son Miguel purchased some land in Santa Rosa de Cabal, 9 km from the town center, with the intention of harvesting timber and planting pasture for raising cattle. However, Don Miguel Arbeláez discovered a hot spring on his property and built a pool for soaking, inviting family and friends to come and enjoy the experience.
The Arbeláez family, recognizing the site’s enormous potential, transformed their family retreat into what is now known as one of Colombia’s most important tourist destinations: Termales Santa Rosa de Cabal
In the 1980s, Termales Balneario was built, making it the first project in Colombia to obtain an environmental license for development and construction permits in this type of natural area. It was no easy task, but it provided an opportunity to harness the Arbeláez family’s tenacity to move this major project forward and raise awareness about responsible tourism.
Currently, Termales Santa Rosa de Cabal is working to continuously improve its processes and strives to maintain high standards of service quality and environmental sustainability by adhering to tourism sustainability requirements, undergoing external audits by Icontec, and participating in sustainable tourism destination audit processes, in order to continue providing the best tourism and wellness experience in the heart of the Coffee Cultural Landscape.
